Dhafna

Ovid writes in the Metamorphoses (I, 555-559): 'Apollo loves her, and embraces the plant as if it were the body of the nymph; he kisses its branches, but the tree seems to rebel against those kisses. Then the disappointed god says to her: 'Since you cannot be my bride, you shall at least be my tree: of you always, O laurel, shall my hair, my zither, my quiver be adorned'.

The 'Dhafna' Bed & Breakfast is located in the heart of the historic centre of Civita (Cosenza), a small village of Italo-Albanian culture perched at the foot of the Pollino National Park. The place is a gem surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and fairytale scenery shaped by nature over millennia.

The Dhafna B&B is within walking distance of the famous Devil's Bridge and the Raganello Gorge, which is visited by many tourists every year.

Its name, which in the Arbëreshe language means laurel, is connected to the myth of the nymph Daphne, daughter of the river god Ladon and the Earth, who was transformed into a laurel tree to escape Apollo's snares.

The structure that houses the bed and breakfast, owned by siblings Giacomo and Anna Maria Fasanella, has undergone a complete restoration that has brought back the beauty of the details while respecting the original architecture. The ceilings with wooden beams, the flooring and the refined finishes, combined with the welcoming service, are the ideal prerequisite for spending one or more nights in the utmost comfort.

The area is very peaceful, quiet and scenic and is also ideal for those seeking accommodation in an informal yet comfortable and cosy environment, whether for a romantic weekend away as a couple or for groups of friends or families.

The structure is spread over two levels and consists of a breakfast room and three rooms that have private bathrooms with showers and are furnished with the utmost care. They all have TV, complete bed and bathroom linen, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The price includes overnight stay, breakfast, complete bed-bath linen, consumption and final cleaning.

Dhafna's cosy and comfortable rooms and its central location offer a happy combination for those who want to experience and discover the various opportunities that the historic centre of Civita and its fascinating views have to offer.

The Belvedere

On the natural terrace that directly overlooks the Raganello gorges stands 'Il Belvedere', a comfortable first-class B&B, born out of the careful renovation of a historic civitese palace.
There is an impressive panorama from the B&B: you can see a glimpse of the Ionian Sea with Sibari and, on the opposite side, some of the mountains of the POLLINO NATIONAL PARK surrounding the medieval village of Civita.
The rooms, all elegantly furnished, recall the building's ancient history in their furniture.
Opening the windows, one can see the imposing Timpa del Demanio that dominates the village and listen to the flowing water of the Raganello torrent.
The Belvedere has a cosy breakfast room where you can enjoy the fragrance of typical homemade food, sweet and savoury baked goods, genuine jams and fruit juices.
In addition, guests can choose to rely - for excursions - on the expert nature guides with whom the hotel collaborates, to visit the POLLINO NATIONAL PARK and all the wonders it contains.
A shuttle service is available on request between Civita and the Castrovillari bus station, the Sibari railway station and Lamezia Terme airport.

The Granary

Situated in the central square of Civita, we find the Granaio, a B&B created by renovating an old building in the village. Signora Rina', the owner of the establishment, is waiting to surprise you with her warm hospitality and her excellent breakfasts, which have earned her the title 'The Queen of Breakfast', a nickname given to her by her many guests. You will not need to mention the pleasantness of the structure or the modern comforts available to guests; of the Granaio you will remember the kindness and smile of the owner, who will delight you with her way of doing things, and with her cuisine made of homemade jams, cakes prepared with zero-kilometre ingredients and following the ancient mastery typical of southern housewives: in short, a guarantee for those who want to visit the Pollino National Park.

La Ginestra

Set in the centre of Civita, 20 km from the beaches of Villapiana Lido, B&B La Ginestra is located within the Pollino National Park and offers classic-style accommodation with a terrace.

The air-conditioned rooms feature free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a minibar and a private bathroom with shower and toiletries.

In the morning, a rich continental breakfast is served in the breakfast room.

B&B La Ginestra is 30 km from the archaeological ruins of Spezzano Albanese.

La Magara

Before arriving at B&B La Magara you breathe in the history and wisdom of a magical place. Enter Civita in small steps. Walk along the narrow streets, observe the stone houses, listen to the silence. You will feel as if you are reliving a past that does not belong to you but that strangely seems familiar. You will feel you have been there, you will feel you have lived there. You're in La Magara, overlooking the whole of the gable. The only Bed and Breakfast in Civita located in the centre of town. You are in a privileged place over the world and memory. High above it all, in every room a loggia, a window...The gaze can dance: stop at the bottom on the devil's bridge, in the distance fill with the sea, turn to the side and be enriched by the lush green plants of the Lacxa. It is magical, it brings with it so many stories, so many secrets, whispers... It caresses the roofs and their masks (The chimney pots: in Civita, the creativity of the masons has no boundaries in this art. The chimney pot at the B&B La Magara is among the oldest. Its name is La Torretta). From above you see eyes peeking out of windows, houses kissing and nature strong and energetic. You are in silence but you are not alone. The passing of time accompanies your journey.

The Star

La Stella is the brainchild of Stella and Giusy Rabia, who have created a location to experience the simple rhythm of the culture and landscape of one of the most beautiful valleys of the Pollino.
The B&B is a short walk from the main square, from which you have access to fascinating alleyways that exude the magical atmosphere of the past.
In some rooms, the spectacular view projects the majestic silhouette of the 'Timpa du Moint' overlooking the Raganello Gorge and the Devil's Bridge.
The rushing wind shakes its vegetation in winter, embracing and enveloping the numerous chimneys and the 'Talking Houses', an excellent symbol of the ancient village.
