3 days and 2 nights

Total199

Villages of excellence, taste and eno-gastronomic traditions for a short holiday to discover the historical, artistic and eno-gastronomic uniqueness of the Pollino area.

This journey will take you to the most genuine flavours and most famous dishes on the tables of the Pollino, a UNESCO Geopark since 2016, and its ancient villages, such as that of Morano Calabro, listed in the club of 'the most beautiful villages in Italy' and a TCI Orange Flag. Amidst the districts and squares of this splendid town perched on a hill and set among the mountains of the Pollino Massif like a pearl, we will find authentic art treasures, while at the table we will savour the typical Calabrian cuisine, made up of simple ingredients, decisive aromas and unique flavours, many of which are enlivened by the ever-present spicy notes of the local chilli pepper. The gastronomic journey continues the next day, discovering the delicacy of simple and frugal desserts, which will enhance the intense, sugary flavour of the moscato di Saracena, a Slow Food Presidium fortified wine, whose amber colour harks back to ancient Arab roots. Good food will be an excellent excuse to take a delicious dive into the history and tradition of these authentic and hospitable lands; tasting as a new point of view on a territory and its people. A valuable experience and an opportunity for knowledge, a journey that will take you to Italy's largest National Park, which will warmly welcome you.

Programme

Day 1

Walk in Morano Calabro

After arriving in the afternoon in Morano Calabro and settling in a cosy agriturismo with a view of the splendid medieval village, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and a TCI Orange Flag, you will stroll through the narrow streets and districts to admire the typical architecture and the interesting cultural heritage of the historic centre of the town, which, perched on two hills and rich in artistic beauty, has earned the name 'Pollino Crib'. We will stroll through the intricate alleyways and discover the San Bernardino complex, the Norman castle, the church of San Pietro e Paolo with its statues by Pietro Bernini, and the Church of the Maddalena with its precious altarpiece by Bartolomeo Vivarini. At the end of our walk and on our return to the agritourism, we will be able to savour the flavours and typical products of this borderland between two regions, Calabria and Basilicata, which at the table blend their souls to generate dishes that are as simple as they are delicious.
